Thinking about moving to a Waco zip code? You might be wondering what you can expect as far as job prospects go. Like many southern American cities, Waco has a strong history in the manufacturing and agricultural sectors. That history has meant that Waco has a solid foundation for its economy, anchored by some of the biggest sector employees in the entire southern United States. It is not a coastal city, so you won't find a job designing winged keels, but there are many other exciting job prospects which we will explore below.

The largest private company as far as employment in the city goes is L-3 communications. This booming business is a place where any resident of Waco would love to work, but you have to have certain skills in order to be a successful applicant for any job at this important facility. L-3 is based out of New York City, but has a very important center of manufacturing right here in Waco that employs over 1600 people. It is the company which supplies various high tech public facilities in the United States with the latest in electronic circuit design and other computer related instruments which are important in keeping our country safe and furthering its research initiatives.

Slightly easier to get into, in terms of employment anyway, are the big food providers in Waco. These include H-E-B, a huge grocery chain based out of Texas. Many of the packaging and quality control processes that the company runs are through the Waco distribution center, which employs 1350 people at last count. If you are buying ingredients for a slurry mixer for a party in Texas, odds are they were processed through the Waco HEB plant!

Another big retail employer in Waco is the huge Wal Mart, which services cities and towns for miles around. It is one of the biggest stores this chain owns anywhere in the world, and Texans love to shop at their Wal Mart! You can work at any number of jobs at this monster store, sowing people the latest in butterfly valve manufacturers offer or working on the management end of things.

Agriculturally speaking, there are several jobs to be had at Sanderson Farms, Inc, another Texas hallmark. If you like the idea of being involved in food production for the masses at the grass roots level, and who doesn't, then a job with this company is worth looking into.

And finally, of course, there are service sector jobs. The biggest employers in Waco are the health and school systems which keep the nuts and bolts of the city in good order. Here is where the future experts in mortgages, commercial and residential, will be trained. This is the area where people with health problems will turn to. And it's in the service sector where the most hiring takes place, every single year.
